Our Mission
The Fearless Theater Company was founded in 1993 to encourage and support the artistic presence and creativity in theater and the media (radio, television, film) of young people with disabilities and without, as well as from different ethnic, racial and economic backgrounds. The company creates, performs and distributes family and youth-oriented programming designed to relate the arts to the realities of our lives and times.
The Fearless Theater Company is comprised of young artists with and without disabilities and is co-directed by Lynne McVeigh, Professor at Tisch School of The Arts & Louise Tiranoff, Founder of Fearless Theater.
Our company members, primarily ages 8-18, attend workshops in which they learn about all aspects of production, from writing to performing. They develop their own scripts by improvising scenes, often inspired by events from their own lives. Collaborating with professional writers and artists, they shape the material into finished works – live shows, musical theater, as well as television and radio projects.
Since 1994, The Fearless Theater Company has continued to support the artistic voice of young people, with and without disabilities, in theater, film, TV, and radio by:
- offering free workshops for disabled children ages 8-18
- partnering with NYC schools for Artist-In-Residence programs
- creating completely original works written by and about the lives of the disabled
- providing performance opportunities for youth with disabilities
- presenting family-oriented programming
- spreading awareness about discrimination, accessibility and prejudice
- developing writing and communication skills
Over the years, the Fearless Theater Company has developed and performed films as well as theatrical productions in venues such as the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center and Vineyard Theater, among various production studios and the Black Box Theater at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Additionally, the Fearless Theatre Company collaborates with schools and organizations throughout the New York area, including New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc.; Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts; The Louis Armstrong School; and The Third Street Music School Settlement in lower Manhattan.
